It is the process of using light on the skinís surface to effect changes beneath the surface of the skin. Blood vessels, brown pigment, hair follicles may be removed and wrinkles may be reduced with this treatment. Photorejuvenation is a procedure intended to rejuvenate the skin on the face, arms, legs, neck, and chest. It is performed in a series of treatments of intense pulsed light, or IPL.
Photofacial is perfect for treating:

  • Sun Damaged Skin
  • Red Spots and Facial Veins
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Brown and Age Spots
  • Wrinkles and Fine Lines
  • Redness & Flushing

Photorejuvenation is performed with a series on Intense Pulsed light treatments. The light penetrates the top layer of skin and acts upon the underlying layer of the dermis. The light energy seals small blood vessels, destroys melanin pigment, destroys hair follicles, and stimulates cells to produce new collagen which reduces wrinkles. Treatments are scheduled 3-4 weeks apart.

The patient typically can return to normal activities immediately, with only 1 to 3 days of minimal redness and swelling.

These procedures are very effective at treating a wide range of skin problems and conditions. Your provider can advise you more fully about whether or not Palomar 1540 Fractional Resurfacing is the right treatment for your particular problem, but the procedure is widely used for all of the following conditions:

  • Rough or uneven skin texture
  • Surface impurities or imperfections
  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine or moderate wrinkles
  • Scars, including acne scars
  • A dull or dark complexion
  • Pigment issues
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots

The answer to this question depends a little on exactly what your desired results are, as well as the overall health of your skin. In many cases, however, it takes somewhere between three and five treatments to get the full effect of laser skin resurfacing. These treatments can be spaced as little as two weeks apart, but they can also be spaced more broadly if you feel you need more time to recover, or just have a hard time making room in your schedule for treatments so close together. Patients with very deep of numerous wrinkles or marked facial folds, or who have severe pigmentation problems or deep scarring may need additional treatments.

The Palomar 1540 laser (similar to Fraxel) treatment improves skin texture, sun damage, pore size, scars and stretch marks with as little as 3 treatments. Using fractional non-ablative technology, Palomar’s Fractional 1540 laser allows a more comfortable treatment with a rapid recovery.

Fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing uses hundreds of tiny high-precision microbeams to create narrow, deep columns of tissue coagulation into the medium layers of the skin. During the natural healing process, new collagen is formed thus blending scars and stretch marks and improving skin texture, wrinkles and sun damaged skin.

Results should become especially noticeable after several treatments, as wrinkles, redness, and age spots fade away. Patients also enjoy a reduction in pore size, and an overall better skin tone and texture. There is virtually no downtime associated with photorejuvenation. Some patients experience slight redness after their IPL treatment, usually lasting less than 24 hours. Occasionally, age spots will darken first and then fade away in about a week.

Photorejuvenation treatments are very safe. Common side effects include: mild redness (which usually can be covered with make-up) and darkening of age spots (which can last up to a week before fading away). Rare side effects include: burning, blistering, and extra pigmentation on the skin which usually resolve in a week.

After a series of 3-6 treatments, the improved appearance should last for 1-2 years.

A Cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. A slight stinging sensation is felt. At first, the skin may be flushed but these effects will generally fade within 24 hours. A topical anesthetic may also be applied 30 minutes prior to treatment to help reduce any mild discomfort.
